VIRTUAL EVENT: ($10) Growing Brave Family Meditation Program: Acts of Kindness/Lovingkindness Meditation Toward Oneself - April 19 at 10am Central from Shambhala Center of San Antonio

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 04/19/2020
Although this is the second lesson in the unit on kindness meditation, each class can be attended without having attended any of the other classes - and newcomers are always welcome. Children who complete the series will receive a pin in a ceremony whenever an in-person gathering is safe. Register for this class as part of our spring semester at https://sanantonio.shambhala.org/program-details/?id=441698, or attend this class as a one-off without registering for $10. (Zoom link sent upon registration.)

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

At 10 AM, children 3-12 with parents will sing a song, listen to a book about how acts of kindness impact oneself, practice golden light lovingkindness meditation, and make "heartprints". Parental help with the craft will be needed; the supplies required to have on hand are a large thin cardboard sheet or butcher paper, colored paper, scissors, glue, and crayons or pens. You may want to cut out palm-sized (large enough to draw or write on) hearts from the colored paper in advance.

At 11 AM, parents will hear a talk on rousing lovingkindness (metta or maitri) toward oneself, given by Linda Mockeridge. This will be boring for most children, so if parents are urgently needed for another game elsewhere in the house, we understand. If parents can stay, there will be an opportunity to practice traditional lovingkindness meditation for a moment of tending to one's inner state.

The Shambhala Growing Brave family meditation program is based on the principles that all children embody innate goodness, curiosity, and kindness. We explore Buddhist and Shambhala themes through play, music, art, and stories while incorporating simple, age appropriate mindfulness activities. Get text (SMS) updates and reminders by texting @growingbra to 81010, or download the Remind app and join the class @growingbra.
