Summer 2018 Discovery Camps

MOSH combines education and entertainment in our annual summer camps.

Each camp encourages student curiosity and exploration as we venture around the Museum. Our highly-trained MOSH Educators utilize the entire Museum to make each camp engaging for children of all ages.

Kindergarten

June 4 – June 8, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Under the Sea

Dive right in to Summer Camp at MOSH! Learn about the animals that live in the waters around Florida and all around the world during our week of underwater adventures. We’ll make sea creature crafts, experiment with water, and even learn how we study the animals of the ocean.

Cost: $180 for MOSH Members / $225 for Non-Members

June 11 – June 15, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It All Makes Sense!

Discover the mysteries and the magic of our five senses! Conduct fun experiments, observe optical illusions, and learn about how our brains help us understand the world. Camper will have a blast as they see, smell, touch, hear, and maybe even taste the Museum!

Cost: $180 for MOSH Members / $225 for Non-Members

June 18 – June 22, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Amazing Architects

Can you create your own city using Building Bricks? How tall can you build your skyscrapers? Draw and plan your designs and experiment with different materials to see what works best! Become an architect as you push your Building Bricks to the limit!

Cost: $180 for MOSH Members / $225 for Non-Members

June 25 – June 29, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Another Man’s Treasure

Can you turn trash to treasure? Join the MOSH team as we examine the process of recycling, learn how inventions can protect our planet, and become ingenious inventors ourselves! Campers will have the opportunity to get creative as they explore ways to re-imagine everyday materials into wonderful inventions!

Cost: $180 for MOSH Members / $225 for Non-Members

July 9 – July 13, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MOSH’s School of Magic

Fans of Harry Potter enroll in the most magical school in the land. Mix up an assortment of odd potions, study owls and other curious creatures, and use illusion and science to levitate and make things disappear. Explore the history of dragons and other mythical beasts. Lead your team in a Quidditch tournament. Show off your wizardry skills at graduation!

Cost: $180 for MOSH Members / $225 for Non-Members

July 16 – July 20, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Storybook Science

Could the big, bad, wolf really blow down a house with just air? Is Oobleck a solid or a liquid? What soil is best to grow a beanstalk? With help from friends like Clifford, Curious George, and the Lorax, campers will use science to investigate their favorite fairy tales and stories.

Cost: $180 for MOSH Members / $225 for Non-Members

July 23 – July 27, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Backyard Explorers

Come on an animal adventure as we learn about the wild critters in our own backyard. Be a guest Naturalist as you get a behind the scenes look at the workings of MOSH’s Florida Naturalist’s Center, design animal enclosures and learn what it takes to care for our resident critters!

Cost: $180 for MOSH Members / $225 for Non-Members

July 30 – August 3, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sailing Through the Stars**

Ready, set, blastoff! Become a space explorer as we tour the galaxy in our Bryan-Gooding Planetarium, perform anti-gravity experiments, race rockets, make space food, and find out how to become an astronaut! Campers will conclude the week with a field trip to Kennedy Space Center.

** Cost for this camp is $25 higher for additional supplies and/or field trip transportation.

1st – 2nd Grade Camps

June 4 – June 8, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Extreme Explorers

Join MOSH on an epic adventure through our new exhibit, Earth Explorers! We will learn all about how people travel to the most remote places in the world as well as create our own tools for exploration in this exciting new camp.

June 11 – June 15, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Human Body Machine

Explore the inner workings of our bodies as we conduct experiments that show just what happens under our skin! We’ll learn how our bodies turn food into fuel, grow and investigate germs, construct model skeletons, and more as we learn why it’s important to make healthy choices.

June 18 – June 22, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Engineer it!

From the tallest tower to the fastest car, your camper will put their engineering skills to work as we complete challenges in our Building Bricks lab. Using only our imaginations and building bricks, we’ll see how to use these blocks in interesting ways, collect and analyze data from our creations and make designs that turn our classroom into a building brick land!

June 25 – June 29, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Jr. Inventors

Do you have the next BIG idea? See what it takes to make your idea a reality. Learn about gadgets and gizmos through the years, and explore the science behind some of our favorite products.  Then showcase your ingenious inventions on Friday in MOSH’s very own Discovery Camp Shark Tank event!

Fans of Harry Potter enroll in the most magical school in the land. Mix up an assortment of odd potions, study owls and other curious creatures, and use illusion and science to levitate and make things disappear. Explore the history of dragons and other mythical beasts. Lead your team in a Quidditch tournament. Show off your wizardry skills at graduation!

Pirates Only!

Ahoy, Mateys! Create secret maps to hidden treasures, construct our own pirate ship, and learn everything there is to know about pirates at MOSH! It’s all hands on deck as we prepare for a week of crafts and experiments!

July 23 – July 27, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Incredible Insects

Discover a tiny world, full of amazing creatures- the world of bugs! Build your own bug habitat, capture and observe real life bugs, and perhaps become a bug yourself as we learn about the insects around us and how they interact with humans.

July 30 – August 3, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Race Through Space**

Join MOSH for an intergalactic road trip! Campers will journey through space, beginning with our own planet and moon, and ending at the farthest reaches of the galaxy, all while staying comfortably Earth-bound in our Bryan-Gooding Planetarium. Campers will conclude the week with a trip to Kennedy Space Center.

3rd – 5th Grade Camps

June 4 – June 8, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Marine Biology**

How do we test water quality? What’s the best way to study animals underwater? How can we protect marine life? Campers will answer these questions and more through a week of experiments, dissections, and investigation of our own St. Johns River!

June 11 – June 15, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Science of Sports

Are you an aspiring Olympian, future pro- player, or overall sports fan? Learn how science can improve your skills! We’ll tackle topics like physics, nutrition, and the ways our bodies work through sports-based examples. Camp will be a slam dunk!

June 18 – June 22, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MOSH Makers**

Get ready to learn what it takes to become a Maker! The Maker Movement is all about thinking creatively, no matter how you do it! From exciting new technologies like 3D printing, to traditional crafts like block printing, Campers will discover new hobbies and jump right in to this exciting new movement.

Disaster!

Earth needs our help! From natural disasters like volcanoes and earthquakes, to human-made crises like oil spills, campers will learn how science and technology can help protect the Earth.

Do you think you’re a gamer? If not, you’ll be one by the end of camp! We’ll discover the relationship between computer science and video games, try out Virtual Reality, create our own challenging board games, and even bring some of our favorite games, like Angry Birds and Minecraft to life!

July 23 – July 27, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Blast from the Past

Travel back in time with MOSH to explore ancient civilizations, the history of science like telescopes and electricity, and examine if time travel will ever exist! By looking to the past, we’ll understand what may be in store for our future!

July 30 – August 3, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Operation Space**

Prepare for a summer camp week that’s out of this world! Learn to prep for space travel by making astronaut food, launch rockets, navigate the constellations, and more as we plan our very own missions to space, and end the week with our own mission to Kennedy Space Center!

6th – 8th Grade Middle School Camps

June 18 – June 22, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Movers & Makers**

Calling all Makers! Do you like to tinker and create new things? Try new technologies like 3D print pens, learn about circuitry and robotics, and get hands on with traditional “making” methods like sewing as we join the Maker Movement together.

July 9 – July 13, 2018, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If I Ran the MOSH

Have you ever wondered what MOSH is like behind the scenes? Do you want to learn what it takes to run a museum? Campers will learn to host an Extreme Science Show, find out how the Planetarium works, investigate how exhibits are built, and more as we discover everything there is to know about MOSH! Registration for this camp will be limited to 10 campers.
