Exhibits
Synthesize: Art + Music
June 3, 2017 - September 24, 2017
A wide array of visually and aurally dynamic pieces that underscore the ways artists synthesize, compose, and bring together the visual and sonic in unpredictable ways. Consisting of video, sculpture, and installation, the exhibition reveals how artists remix classical and pop music, electronic beats, instruments, and music videos to form multilayered connections between visual art, music, film, and popular culture.
Project Atrium: Gabriel Dawe
July 15, 2017 - October 29, 2017
Organized with meticulous precision, Gabriel Dawe's architecturally scaled weavings result in three-dimensional patterns often mistaken for fleeting rays of light or prisms. Consisting of miles of multicolored thread, the material and vivid colors in his ongoing Plexus series recall the embroideries employed in the artist's home country, Mexico. Plexus No. 38 alters our understanding of sewing thread-the core component of clothing-that no longer shelters the human body, but instead fashions a nonphysical, sensory structure.
Another Side Revealed Art with a Heart in Healthcare
August 5, 2017 - December 3, 2017
MOCA Jacksonville continues its partnership with Art with a Heart in Healthcare, a nonprofit organization that provides personalized fine art experiences to enhance the healing process for patients and families at Wolfson Children's Hospital, Nemours Children's Clinic, and Brooks Rehabilitation. For this exhibition, each artist started with a question, "If you could be anything, go anywhere, do anything … what would it be?" In answering this question, the patients render their self-portraits as they are and as they would be. Painting on canvas, patients explore their personalities, stories, and identities in two-dimensional form. Patients partner with artists-in-residence to expand their artistic expression while promoting self-confidence and self-awareness during their hospital experience. Sponsored by First Tennessee Bank, Another Side Revealed shows how these young artists would alter their worlds.
This venue will accept your Museum Day Live! ticket on the screen of your smartphone.
