First Coast Spelling Bee

The Jacksonville Sports Council, WJXT and the Florida Theatre will host the First Coast Spelling Bee at the historic Florida Theatre on Friday, March 9, 2018. Now 74 years old, the First Coast Spelling Bee is the regional Spelling Bee that serves as the qualifier for the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. The event will be televised live in primetime on WJXT, Channel 4, The Local Station.

This event is free and open to the public.
The First Coast Spelling Bee pits the top two spellers from each of fourteen school district spelling bees against one another for a chance to represent the First Coast at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Last year’s regional winner, Sreeniketh Vogoti, from Fruit Cove Middle School, placed 4th at last year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee.
