Festival of Chariots is a captivating, beautiful parade and cultural celebration of Ancient India coming to Jacksonville Beach August 18th.
With a kaleidoscope of color, sound and creativity, it shares a rich heritage from another world intended to uplift the consciousness of society, advocate cultural diversity and share a tradition of peace and love with others.
Local residents and tourists take home an unforgettable, exotic experience with a range of family friendly activities, cultural arts, entertainment, dance, live music and a free vegetarian feast featuring Indian cuisine.
Festival of Chariots, also known as Ratha Yatra, is the worlds oldest known parade honoring India’s Bhakti yoga traditions. Bhakti yoga is the yoga of love and Festival of Chariots encourages everyone to come together and celebrate life, peace and well being. We seek to inspire goodness, beauty and service for each other while honoring our diverse spiritual faiths.
Ratha means chariot and Yatra means journey. This transcendental festival refers to the journey of pulling God into our hearts, as hundreds of singing, dancing and chanting festival goers pull the giant, ornately decorated, 4000 pound brightly colored flowering chariot with 100 foot long ropes carrying the Lord Jagannatha, the Hindu Lord of the Universe, along a festive procession.
This is a family fun, free event.
