*The event has already taken place on this date: Mon, 03/08/2021
Join us Monday, March 8 at 7 pm EST for our second broadcast of Spirited Conversations: Behind the Scores. Eavesdrop on Atlanta Master Chorale Artistic Director Eric Nelson and Emmy award-winning composer, conductor, pianist and educator, Joel Thompson.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Joel is currently pursuing his D.M.A. in composition at the Yale School of Music. A quickly rising and frequently commissioned young composer, Joel was vaulted to national prominence with his composition “Seven Last Words of the Unarmed”. The 15-minute work was premiered in November 2015 by the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club under the direction of Dr. Eugene Rogers and won the 2018 American Prize for Choral Composition.

Joel’s pieces have been performed by the Atlanta Master Chorale, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Master Chorale, EXIGENCE and the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. Joel is a proud Emory alum who sang with Atlanta Master Chorale for a number of seasons between 2011 and 2018. Atlanta Master Chorale premiered Joel’s choral work “Hold Fast to Dreams” in 2016 and also performed his arrangement of “Joy to the World” in 2017. Joel has recently completed a commissioned piece for Atlanta Master Chorale that will be premiered in our next concert season.

This will be a live virtual interview, and guests will have an opportunity for Q&A following the session. The event is free to attend, but we are accepting donations to cover the costs of our Virtual Concert Hall programming (suggested $10). Your gift helps ensure that we can continue sharing music that touches the spirit.

Space is limited, so register today to claim your spot!
